The Passaic County Sheriff’s Office utilizes Body Worn Cameras (BWC) as part of our continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and public trust. Officers assigned to uniformed patrol, K9 operations, and various specialized units are equipped with body worn cameras during their duties.

These devices serve multiple purposes, including:

  • Documenting interactions with the public
  • Capturing critical evidence for criminal investigations and prosecutions
  • Supporting training and evaluation related to officer safety, best practices, and service delivery

Body worn cameras are secured to the officer’s uniform and record both video and audio within the field of view. Similar to a mobile phone camera, the footage reflects what the officer sees and hears during the course of their duties. Members of the public who interact with Sheriff’s Officers should be aware that these interactions may be recorded.

Body Worn Cameras are proven to:

  • Improve transparency and accountability
  • Strengthen community trust
  • Reduce the number of civilian complaints
  • Increase the efficiency of prosecutions

The Passaic County Sheriff’s Office adheres strictly to the Body Worn Camera Directive issued by the New Jersey Attorney General, as well as applicable policies and procedures established by state and county authorities.
