Chief Scott Slekis began his career with our agency in October of 2001 as a Sheriff’s Officer. His dedication, strong work ethic, and exceptional leadership stood out, leading to his promotion to Sergeant in 2014. He continued to rise through the ranks, earning his promotion to Lieutenant in December of 2016. In October of 2022, he was appointed Detective Captain. In January of 2025 he was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer.
Throughout his career, Chief Slekis has served in a variety of critical positions within our agency. His experience spans the Bureau of Court Services, the Emergency Services Unit, the Marine Unit, the Warrant Squad, the SWAT Team, the Detective Bureau, and Tour Commander of the Patrol Division.
Chief Slekis holds an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Criminal Justice from Passaic County Community College. Prior to his service with this agency, Chief Slekis honorably served in the United States Navy as a Plane Captain, where he earned the National Defense Ribbon and was named Plane Captain of the Quarter during his service. He ultimately left the Navy in 1994 with the rank of Airman. His military service laid the foundation for his remarkable leadership and commitment to excellence.
Throughout his career with this agency, Chief Slekis has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including 4 Unit Citations, the Life Saving Award, the Gallantry Star, two Meritorious Service Awards, 4 Certificates of Merit, Excellent Police Duty Citation—multiple letters of commendation, 4 Employee of the Month awards and the FBI LEEDA Trilogy Award.
He is a member of several prestigious organizations, including the NJ Honor Legion, the National Tactical Officers Association, the National Field Training Officers Association, and the FBI Leadership Institute, further demonstrating his commitment to continuous professional development.
