Deputy Warden John Arturi began his career with the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office in 1996 as a Correctional Officer. He was promoted through the ranks of Sergeant (2004), Lieutenant (2011), Captain (2019), and most recently Deputy Warden in January 2021, reflecting a career built on leadership, operational expertise, and commitment to public safety.
 
Throughout his career, Deputy Warden Arturi has served in a wide range of specialized and operational assignments, including the Corrections Division, Court House Division, Patrol Division, Marine Patrol, Motorcycle Squad, and the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.). He also served as Hazmat Commander and has been assigned to Jail Administration since 2016, where he plays a key role in facility operations, staff supervision, and the safe and secure management of the county jail.
 
He holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Bergen Community College and maintains several professional certifications, including Certified Jail Officer, Certified Jail Manager, and Certified Public Manager. Deputy Warden Arturi is also a graduate of the National Jail Command Academy (Class 21) and is an active member of PBA Local 197, the Honor Legion, and S.E.R.T.
 
His service record includes notable acts of dedication and bravery. In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, he was assigned to Ground Zero for six weeks in support operations. In 2011, he received the Life Safety Award for entering a house fire on Grand Street in Paterson. He was awarded the Unit Citation Award in 2019 for his role in a hazardous materials incident in Hawthorne, and the Exceptional Duty Award in 2020 for his actions during an incident at the Passaic County Jail.
