Undersheriff Jamie Tangorra’s career in law enforcement began in August of 2001, when he became a County Correction Officer at the Passaic County Jail. His commitment to serving and protecting his community quickly became evident, and in September of 2005, he was appointed as a Sheriff’s Officer. During his career, Undersheriff Tangorra’s dedication and expertise earned him multiple promotions, becoming Sergeant in December of 2016 and then Lieutenant in February of 2021.
Throughout his distinguished career, Undersheriff Tangorra has served in a number of critical roles within our agency. His experience spans the Bureau of Court Services and the Patrol K9 Unit, where he has played an integral part in keeping our community safe. He also oversaw several units, including, the Bomb Squad, Search and Rescue, our Training Division, and the K9 Unit, where he was the head K9 instructor and had trained 100’s of K9’s from all over our state.
In January 2025 he was appointed as Undersheriff.
Undersheriff Tangorra’s leadership has been recognized on a broader scale as well. In 2023, he earned the prestigious FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award, an acknowledgment of his professionalism and dedication to training. He is also a proud member of the NJ Honor Legion.
