The Internet Crime Unit of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) was established in October 2003. In February 2005, the Sheriff’s Office became an affiliate agency of the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force—a collaborative effort among federal, state, county, and local law enforcement agencies focused on investigating technology-facilitated child exploitation and internet crimes against children.
Since joining the ICAC Task Force, PCSO has remained the only ICAC affiliate in Passaic County, serving as the lead agency responsible for the successful investigation of these serious offenses. The unit provides services across all 16 municipalities within the county, acting as the primary resource for internet-based child exploitation cases.
In addition to handling investigations, the Internet Crime Unit assists all law enforcement agencies in Passaic County with the seizure of computers and electronic devices, as well as the recovery and forensic analysis of digital evidence. The unit uses the most current forensic tools and procedures to ensure thorough, impartial, and accurate results.
The Internet Crime Unit is committed to staying up to date in the constantly evolving field of electronic crime, continuously enhancing its capabilities to respond effectively to emerging threats.
Beyond its investigative work, the unit is also active in community outreach and education. Detectives deliver informational presentations to both law enforcement agencies and the general public, raising awareness about the dangers of the internet, with a particular focus on internet safety for children.
